Beijing, October 24 (Xinhua) -- The National Development and Reform Commission of China, together with the General Administration of Sport, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Water Resources, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and other departments, issued the "Action Plan for Promoting the Construction and Service Improvement of Outdoor Sports Facilities (2023-2025)" (referred to as the "Action Plan") on the 24th. This document proposes to promote the total scale of the outdoor sports industry to reach 3 trillion yuan (RMB) by 2025.
With the increasing popularity of outdoor sports in China, the development of related industries has benefited. Liu Ming, Director of the Social Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, said at a press conference on the same day that the outdoor sports industry chain is long and has a wide radiation range. Developing outdoor sports can directly drive the construction of public service facilities, equipment research and development, manufacturing, and sales, indirectly drive tourism, health care, training, and insurance, effectively stimulate domestic demand, and promote consumption.
Liu Ming introduced that according to statistics, since September this year, the search volume of the keyword "outdoor hiking" on consumer review platforms has increased by 370% compared to the same period last year, the sales of fishing equipment on online shopping platforms have increased by 153%, and the sales of self driving camping equipment have increased by 167%. With the emergence of new models and formats of "outdoor+", consumer products are becoming increasingly diversified, and the driving role of outdoor sports in the sports industry is becoming more prominent.
The Action Plan proposes that by 2025, the construction of outdoor sports facilities and the supply and demand of service quality will be effectively matched, the participation group will be more extensive, the competition activities will be more diverse, the professional talent team will continue to grow, the safety supervision policy system will be more sound, and a number of outdoor sports development highlands with good development foundation, complete service guarantee, strong local characteristics, and excellent supporting industries will be formed nationwide, promoting the total scale of the outdoor sports industry to reach 3 trillion yuan.
The Action Plan specifies the key tasks for promoting the construction and service improvement of outdoor sports facilities. In terms of strengthening the construction of outdoor sports facilities, it includes promoting the construction of sports parks, building a national trail system, optimizing the layout of ice and snow sports facilities, improving mountain outdoor sports facilities, increasing the supply of water sports facilities, supporting camping site construction, cultivating self driving car sports camps, and strengthening the construction of aviation flight camps.
The official will also promote the innovative development of the outdoor sports industry, including strengthening the integration and innovation of industrial policies, innovating land supply methods, building new mechanisms for the transportation of outdoor sports equipment, stimulating the development vitality of private outdoor sports enterprises, and leveraging the employment and income increasing functions of the outdoor sports industry.
